On 1 September 2016, Queensland smoking laws changed.
Smoking is now banned within 10 metres of viewing and playing areas during an organised under-18 sporting event in Queensland.
In line with the above changes the Queensland Rugby League advises all venues hosting Junior Rugby League events that they should comply and adhere to the new laws.
The new laws restrict smoking within 10 metres of the participation space and/or viewing areas at any junior sporting event up to and including under 18 events. This includes scheduled fixtures, training and practice sessions.
The Queensland Rugby League supports a proactive approach by leagues and clubs in managing these laws. Queensland Health Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) have the power to issue individuals who are breaching these laws with a warning or on the spot fine.
Please find attached information produced by Queensland Health to assist you with implementing these changes. These can be displayed at your venue but should also be distributed to all club and committee members.
Further information in relation to these laws is attached (Tobacco Laws in Queensland).
